Last weekend I managed to visit the Arundel Christmas Market. Mum and I had made
a deal that if I wasn't going to be well enough to go to London (for the prize I won) before Christmas then we would try going to a couple of our local Christmas
Markets to make up for it! This was my first proper outing in weeks, for those
of you who aren't regular readers I've had acute tonsillitis for 3 months and on
top of my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome it's not been a fun combo! I kind of felt like
a cub being released into the wild, I had to be careful not to get too excited
and overdo it!
It was very cold and so windy that they had to limit the number of stalls outside as not all could withstand it. They still managed to have a lot of food stalls selling, hog roasts, mince pies, gingerbread, roasted chestnuts and toasted marshmallows. There was also a live Nativity complete with two donkeys, a cow and a turkey (know idea?!)! Everything else was held inside Arundel's array of unique shops. Selling jewellery, Christmas ornaments and decorations and all manor of gifts. Set up in what is usually Arundel car park were fairground rides, including Ferris wheel and helter skelter. The vibrant colours of the fairground definitely brighten up the dull grey skies and made a lovely backdrop for outfit photos (look out for that post coming up this week)!. We didn't stay long as I was struggling so I missed the tree lighting ceremony and lantern parade that was promised once it got dark. But we managed to find a seat for me to sit and eat our delicious hog roast rolls and we watched a wonderful routine of a group of men on stilts singing Christmas carols & playing musical instruments - standard festive stuff! I also got a lovely mug of mulled cider and later a cup of cadburys hot chocolate on the way back.
Overall it was a fun and impressive Christmas market, in spite of the weather, and I really look forward to going again next year!
